What to Wear for Your Photo Session
One of the most common questions I get before a photo session is: “What should we wear?” The truth is, what you wear plays a huge role in the overall look and feel of your photos. The right clothing helps create timeless images that truly reflect your personality and style.
Keep It Neutral
I love working with neutral tones because they photograph beautifully and never go out of style. Think soft creams, tans, beiges, grays, muted greens, dusty blues, or warm earth tones. These colors are flattering, easy to coordinate, and allow you—not your outfit—to be the main focus of the photo.
Coordinate, Don’t Match
Gone are the days of everyone in the same white shirt and jeans. Instead, choose outfits that coordinate without being too matchy! Pick a color palette and let each person’s outfit complement one another. This creates a cohesive look while still highlighting each person’s individuality.
Keep It Simple & Polished
Choose outfits that feel classic but not overly fussy. Flowy dresses, cozy sweaters, or well-fitted jeans always photograph beautifully. Layers—like a cardigan, denim jacket, or scarf—can add depth and variety without overpowering your look. Accessories are wonderful too, as long as they’re subtle and don’t distract from the overall image.
Avoid Distractions
Stay away from busy patterns, logos, and neon colors. These can draw the eye away from your faces and the emotion in the photo. Simple textures, subtle patterns, or layering can add interest without being overwhelming.
Comfort is Key
The best photos happen when you feel comfortable and confident. Choose outfits that fit well and allow you to move freely. If kids are part of the session, make sure their outfits are easy to play in—they’ll feel happier, and it will show in your images.
